On Saturday, March 7, 2026, I had the honor of presenting “Authentic Leadership: Bravery, Belonging, and Affirmation for the Community” to an incredible group of students at the Champions 4 Change Retreat at the YMCA of the Pines.
Engaging with these students truly made my spirit leap. Their curiosity about the work we’re doing through The Lawrence Collective, their honesty, and their thoughtful reflections on bravery, belonging, affirmations, and authentic leadership were powerful reminders of why I continue this work in higher education.
Creating spaces where students feel safe enough to be bold, brave, and honest is essential to preparing them for the opportunities and challenges they will encounter in the workforce and in graduate school.
I’m grateful to have played even a small role in reinforcing a message they should carry with them always: they belong—no matter what space they enter.

The Lawrence Collective presented at the 2nd Annual Belonging, Affirmation, and Motivation (B.A.M.) Virtual Conference on December 5, 2025. The interactive workshop explored how affirmations can serve as powerful tools to strengthen self-worth, boost self-esteem, and cultivate a resilient mindset. Participants discovered practical strategies and coping methods that can be woven into daily routines—through consistent repetition, intentional reminders, and unwavering faith.
Using live polls, open and vulnerable discussions, and guided affirmation recitations, this session created a safe and energizing space for reflection and growth. By the end, participants left feeling invigorated, motivated, and equipped with actionable practices to carry into the workplace—empowering them to return with renewed confidence, clarity, and purpose.

The 2025 AAUA National Conference at Montclair State University occurred October 20-22, 2025 and was truly inspiring time! We are grateful to have spent time at this conference surrounded by passionate and forward-thinking colleagues exploring the future of higher education. From sessions on leadership development in action, compassionate compliance, and AI-powered durable skills training to conversations on emotional intelligence and enrollment strategies, the learning and exchange were incredible.
It was especially an honored to co-present “Bridging the Gap: Leadership, Policy, and the Strategic Future of Higher Education” alongside two Stockton University favorites, Dr. Lee Bryant and Dr. Kimberly Dickerson. Our session sparked such thoughtful dialogue — a reminder of how powerful collaboration and shared vision can be. Already looking forward to next year’s conference! #2025AAUA #HigherEdLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #LifelongLearning

We spent our lunch hour with an engaging group of students on October 2, 2025 at the Student Development Leadership Lunch Series. Once again, I had the opportunity to present on two passions close to my heart: Afro-Caribbean Culture and Authentic Leadership in the Workplace. Our discussion sparked curiosity and critical conversation around trends relating to Black culture and ethnicity. Many thanks to Lauren Wilson for the invitation.
On September 30, 2025, we were invited to present on Afro-Caribbean Identity and Authentic Leadership to a great group of students in an Organizational Behavior course at Stockton University. I was truly honored to return to the Empowered Leadership Conference at Stockton University on April 4, 2025. Participating in the panel, “Shaping the Next Generation of Leaders,” was both inspiring and energizing. We engaged with students on timely and important topics including leadership development, the ethical use of AI, and the power of mentorship, internships, and networking—critical tools for success in today’s job market.
A heartfelt thank you to my colleagues Ana Rodriguez (Edmondson), Ed.D. Yesenia Pacheco and Netesha Peterson, MAS for the opportunity to contribute once again to this meaningful event.

“It was an uplifting experience to work with Dr. Esther Lawrence at our 2nd Annual Belonging, Affirmation, and Motivation (B.A.M.) Conference – 2025. Dr. Lawrence has a unique gift for transforming affirmation from something we say into something we practice — a daily discipline rooted in intention, self-worth, and truth.
She created a space where participants felt seen, heard, and empowered to reconnect with their inner voice. Her approach is both grounded and inspiring, offering not only meaningful reflection but also tangible tools that extend far beyond the workshop space.
Dr. Lawrence’s work is deeply aligned with the heart of B.A.M., and her presence left our community feeling more confident, capable, and affirmed.”

“Dr. Esther Lawrence is a great colleague of mine at Stockton University. She’s incredibly professional and passionate about social justice issues. Her dedication to the topic really shines through, especially when she’s connecting with students. I’ve seen her support students firsthand when I’ve referred them to her. She was a fantastic panelist at last year’s inclusive leadership conference, a campus wide event that I oversee, and I’m so glad she’s been invited back this year. I’d love to partner with her on future projects.”

“Thank you for this article Esther. Too many black women pay lip service to taking care of ourselves while continually trying to prove ourselves in the wake of credentials and skills being questioned, stress, microaggressions and aggressions. The last few years have shown that not making an active decision and choice to prioritize ourselves has lead to physical and mental health challenges and detriment. It is past time to acknowledge that caring for ourselves and prioritizing ourselves is caring for and prioritizing our loved ones. Thank you for the reminder to cherish the time we have and not to take this life and the time with our loved ones for granted.”
